Written By: Jona F.

This week we sat down with teen creatives Demi and Dandi. The sister combo is a dynamic force and taking over their genre. Take a look at our exclusive cover story with the dynamic duo.

A little bit about me and my career?:  I’m a thirteen year old black artist who is currently starting a career in VTubing. I started drawing when I was three years old, but it was in 2020 when I started pursuing my career in art. I'm always trying to improve my skills by practicing anatomy, drawing animals, nature, anthros, and more! As of right now I'm only just starting on my VTuber model, but I'm very excited to start my VTubing journey.

Describe myself in three words?: Creative, Smart, and Beautiful.

How did you get started in your career?: When I  was little I started watching ‘’how to draw’’ videos on YouTube and I've been drawing ever since. Trying new art styIes every now and then, advancing my skills as an artist, and widening my horizon of stuff to draw. I started watching Vtubers late 2021 and ever since then I've fallen in love with what they do, how they bring joy to people's lives, and how they are just great people in general.

How has this changed your life?:  It has changed my life for the better. My life is already perfect as is, but VTubers and art have brought much more light to my life!

What is the best and worst part of your career? : I think the worst part of my art career is when I couldn't find out which art style I was comfortable with or figuring out anatomy. Other than that I can’t really think of anything else. The best part of my career was when I finally got the hang of things and started to understand what I was actually doing.

How do you prepare for gigs? : Usually, I mentally prepare for the gig the night before by doing a deep cleanse on my face and trying to calm myself down. They aren’t as stressful for me but I still like to calm myself down and relax a bit.

What kind of jobs do you like or would like to play and why? : I would like to play a street photographer! I think it would be really fun to take pictures of different people's lives and beautiful sceneries.

Where do you get inspiration from? :  Ironmouse, she’s a Vshojo VTuber! She has inspired me from her bubbly personality to her way of entertaining and changing people's lives. I’ve been watching Ironmouse for about 2 years now and I've fallen in love with what she does. With a long list of other VTubers, she's my biggest inspiration.

What other projects have you been a part of? : Demiere Cosmetics Ambassador, Fashion Week Alabama, Dillards Fashion Show, Maitland Conservatory Commercial, and Hosale Natural Body-Care.

What is the most rewarding part of your work? : It's when I finish a piece of art and finally get to see how it turned out.

What would your best friend describe you guys? : My best friend, which is my sister, I think she would describe me as weird, intimidating, bubbly, and entertaining.

What's next for you both in 2022? : Becoming a streamer and widening my horizon with art.

What is your own definition of happiness? :  Spending time with your family.  I don’t think that people understand how important it is to spend time with them. I know people have said this time and time again, but I wouldn't trade my family for the world.

If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why? : I’d like to meet Ski Jackson or Marsia Martin! I love how they’re an inspiration for young black women.

Best advice ever given? : ‘’Always be yourself, even if people don’t like or understand it. Be yourself. Unapologetically.’’

Do you support any charity? : We support Reachback Project!.

Where do you see yourself and your career 5 years from now? : I see myself becoming a role-model, not only for VTubers, but for Young black women too. I want them to be able to understand that they can become greater than what they’re seeing on social media.

Favorite Song? Why? : In My Mind - By Never Dull (Disco Rave Remix)! This song has to be my favorite because it has a really good vibe to it!

What do you think of Social Media? : I think Social Media is fun! It's fun for me because I go there to look at my interests and check up on people I follow! And if you're careful, you could make some really good friends there.

My name is Demi Glynn, I’m 14 years old and I’ve been writing for over a year now, but I started to write publicly around three months ago.

Describe yourself in three words? Three words I would describe myself with are anxious, a perfectionist, and, honestly, I can be selfish at times.

How did I get started in my career? I’ve been a reader for most of my life. I’ve always loved books and letting myself become engulfed in them. It was around mid 2022 that I decided that I wanted to try writing a book. I started a Tiktok for my writing in September and since then I’ve gained over 2,000 followers. I started my Wattpad around that time as well, now I have two books published so far.

How has this changed your life? It made me see things differently than I did before. Showing me opportunities I never thought I could have. It has also shown me that this is what I want to do with my life. Writing brings me joy nothing else can.

What is the best and worst part of my career thus far? The best part of my career was publishing the chapter of my first book. It might seem like a small thing, but to me it was one of the greatest things and feelings of my life. For the worst part of my career.. There’s nothing that I can just point out that was the worst part, honestly.

How do I prepare to write? I listen to music or brown noise, completely tuning out the outside world. I let myself become one with my character. Putting myself in their shoes to understand how to write about them better.

What kind of jobs would I like to play and why? I would love to publish a real novel and go on a book tour. It’s been one of my dreams since I was a kid.

Where do I get my inspiration from? From books I’ve already read, listening to music helps a lot, and sometimes inspiration will pop into my head at random.

What is the most rewarding part of my work? Having people relate to my books. Or just tell how much they love them. It’s good to know someone else besides me loves my book as much as I do.

How would my best friend describe me? Stubborn, kind of mean sometimes, and lovable.

Yara Shahidi. She’s one of my favorite actresses. She’s absolutely gorgeous and is an amazing Black representation. It’s honestly difficult to see Black actresses due to all of the European culture that we see everywhere. From social media to television that's what we see and it’s great to have that representation.

What’s next for me in 2023? I’m working on a novel that I’m hoping to fully have planned out and published by 2024.

What is your definition of happiness? Happy is such a cliche word to me. It’s overused and pushed onto people. In my opinion, happiness is that light in your life. Whether it be your family, your friends, your career. And you should protect that happiness, that light, with your light because just as fast as it comes, it can leave ten times faster.

Best advice ever given? Love yourself. I know it can be difficult at times with social media, people telling you things, even just you bringing yourself down. I’m speaking from experience here. It will send you down a spiral that, trust me, you never want to go down.

Where do I see myself five years from now? Having published my first book, going on tour. Having women and men of all ages come to me, telling me how much they enjoy books, asking when I’ll be releasing my next one.

What do I think of social media? I have a love-hate relationship with it. On one hand, it’s a good platform to share things on and it’s obviously fun to scroll on, but it can also damage your mental health to the point where it consumes and it’s all you can think about.
