Fashion Gxd Magazine : How did the idea for your business come about?

Kimo Bentley: My daughter was diagnosed with eczema as a baby, the doctor provided a prescription steroid as a treatment, I was not happy with the treatment nor diagnosis so I decided to go home and throw myself into extensive research on natural alternatives to treat eczema. I went back to the doctor after a 3 month follow up and told him I was using my homemade alternative I created specifically for her skin problem which actually worked and I was satisfied with the results. the doctor then asked me for a couple of bars to keep in the office as an alternative for a few other mothers who refused to use the prescription. I honestly did not go into business for financial gain my business came about because there was a need, there was not a door so I literally built my own.

  • Fashion Gxd Magazine : How do you find people to bring into your organization that truly care about the organization the way you do?

  • Answer: Social media is a very powerful tool but, because my business is so near and dear to my heart I hand pick all of my brand ambassadors, employees and also distributors, I go off of energy, I feed off of positive energy, organic energy, people who are true and Intune to themselves, people who are self starters, motivated and ambitious. I actually spend time with my team so I can learn about who they are, building a business is like a chain with links, each hand washes the other, a good leader focuses on exceptional service to those who she/he adds to the link (the Business)

  •  Fashion Gxd Magazine : What three pieces of advice would you give to college students who want to become entrepreneurs?

  • Kimo Bentley :I would say it is important to understand the power of the1. P's Plan Have a plan it is a diagram that is used to achieve an objective, a goal, an aim an idea. Perspective : This comes from having a point of view, your attitude about something. Purpose: what is your purpose ? what is the reason for which something is created, an objective. Passion: how deep is your passion? your desire, your emotions, what drives you.

  • 2. Remember what you focus on the longest becomes the strongest.

  • 3.Have the ability to listen and build relationships.

  • Fashion Gxd Magazine :If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?

  • Kimo Bentley: Honestly I would not change a thing! I knew what my calling was as a young child and I followed the path that was charted out for me by God, Listening to my inner voice has really helped me on this journey called life. It has not always been easy but I have never thought about hitting that reset button and changing anything, we are all given a path for a purpose, whether its a rocky road or an easy one we are given something that should be used to tell our story, to inspire others, to help change humanity. Les Brown says it best "if we do what is easy life will be hard but if we do what is hard life will be easy". I sat for days on end and pondered on this statement and then it finally came to me. as the old folks say when life gives you lemons make lemonade, I didn't make lemonade with my lemons, I created a new path for my child, an alternative, a door, after getting the diagnosis I said why me but I soon realized this was my way of shaping the world and helping thousands of people.

  • Fashion Gxd Magazine :What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

  • Kimo Bentley: The 3 top skills needed are 1. Having the ability to be positive, productive and have perspective.

  • Fashion Gxd Magazine :What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?

  • Kimo Bentley Some of my failures has been getting frustrated that people did not see my vision, especially family members, people thinking that I was dreaming too big, not enough capital. what I have learned form these are that you have to sometimes be your own motivator, be your biggest cheerleader, tell yourself YOU ARE THE GREATEST SOMEBODY there is. Dream big and lastly creating different avenues for gaining capital by using my resources.

  • Fashion Gxd Magazine : How many hours do you work a day on average?

  • Kimo Bentley: When you are an entrepreneur you are always working there are 24 hours in a day so I most likely work 20 hours the other 4 hours I am sleeping , still working though because I am dreaming up new formulations.

  • Fashion Gxd Magazine :Describe/outline your typical day?

  • Kimo Bentley: I am a mommy first so after sending the children off to school, I am in my basement making products for distribution, seeing clients during the evening for skincare services , then its homework, dinner then back to making skincare products.

  • Fashion Gxd Magazine : How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?

  • Kimo Bentley: My brand is a family business so everyone is involved at some point, the business has affected if in a positive way, we are much closer.

  • Fashion Gxd Magazine :What motivates you?

  • Kimo Bentley My motivation comes from my passion to be a better person, the call on my life to make big changes in the world, to enhance the quality of life for others.

  • Fashion Gxd Magazine:How do you generate new ideas?

  • Kimo Bentley: New ideas are given to me through dreams and visions, I am a very spiritual person so I listen to the direction of the holy spirit .

  • Fashion Gxd Magazine : What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful entrepreneur?

  • Kimo Bentley: I sacrifice time out with friends, so that I can save more money and also be in a better frame of mind to focus on brand building, if you want to go far you must Launch out into the deep. before you go high you must go deep. the number of people who don't take advange of their talents is more made up for, by the number who take full advantage of the talents they have. Sacrifice must be part of your story, it is important because it creates character and a sense of appreciation when you truly get what you want out of life.

  • Fashion Gxd Magazine : Where you see yourself and your business in 10 years? 20 years?

We have established our Foundation that is called A Great Somebody, it is an organization that empowers, enriches and positions young and upcoming entrepreneurs to step out on faith and jump start their business.
