This week we sat down with an amazing entrepreneur Ashanti Lanae . Ashanti is the CEO of B. Lash. B. Lash is a company founded in 2017 by Ashanti Lanae that specializes in handmade 3D mink eyelash strips for cosmetic use. It is an animal cruelty free company located primarily in the New York City area. Although B. Lash focuses on mink strips during the next several months will move on too accessories such as eyelash applicators, glue and eyelash brushes. Fashion Gxd Magazine : How did the idea for your business come about?
B. Lash ( CEO) : I was always into fashion and beauty i worked in retail since 16 got fascinated with makeup so I thought to myself how could I contribute to the beauty world where could I step in and then it just came to me eyelashes it completes the look.
Fashion Gxd Magazine : How do you find people to bring into your organization that truly care about the organization the way you do?
B. Lash ( CEO) : it’s all about character you can tell how passionate a person is based on personality and prior experience. I wouldn’t want someone who can care less about eyelashes representing my brand.
Fashion Gxd Magazine : What three pieces of advice would you give to other children who want to become entrepreneurs?
B. Lash ( CEO) : 1. Research research research. 2. Never give up even if you feel defeated. 3. Have fun with it make it your own there’s always someone out there doing the same thing as you but are they doing it like you?
Fashion Gxd Magazine :If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?
B. Lash ( CEO) : definitely do more research and perfect my craft before I jump right in get a better understanding of the business world and how to properly network, and. Reach the customer base that’s good for me.
Fashion Gxd Magazine :What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur ?
B. Lash ( CEO) : 1. focus verryyyy important 2. willingness to learn have to keep up the the trends of the beauty world 3. patience nothing happens overnight
Fashion Gxd Magazine :What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?
B. Lash ( CEO) : my main failure was going into starting a business without the proper knowledge of knowing what it takes to run a business. I lost so much more than what I put in due to lack of exposure. Now I am out networking more teaming up with entrepreneurs getting their advice plus showing them what I have to offer.
Fashion Gxd Magazine : How many hours do you work a day on average?
B. Lash ( CEO) : a day? 10 hrs at least
Fashion Gxd Magazine :Describe/outline your typical day?
B. Lash ( CEO) : I wake up check my phone of course, answer texts dms and emails I try to answer everyone in a timely manner. Since I offer drop off services in the area in which I live I get those orders ready to go make sure. The ladies are still available to meet. Once everything is. Good to go I get ready for my 9-5 (yes I do both! 2 jobs plus the business). In between jobs I meet my clients that do drop offs and give them their purchase. I’ll be so happy once I get a car doing this using public transportation can be so hard sometimes.
Fashion Gxd Magazine : How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?
B. Lash ( CEO) : it hasn’t yet but I’m sure when I start my family I will have my husband helping me out a lot. So he better be ready!
Fashion Gxd Magazine :What motivates you?
B. Lash ( CEO) : My clients, sometimes I get so overwhelmed and then I receive a text or a DM of them telling me how they love the lashes and how beautiful they look the compliments they get. Makes me feel so amazing like all the hard work is worth it.
Fashion Gxd Magazine: How do you generate new ideas?
B. Lash ( CEO) : I’m a naturally creative person so it comes from just placing random thoughts together
Fashion Gxd Magazine : What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful entrepreneur?
B. Lash ( CEO) : free time, when I decided to run my own business and still work I didn’t realize how much time out of my day that would take. I literally have to squeeze in personal time/relaxation.
Fashion Gxd Magazine : Where you see yourself and your business in 10 years? 20 years?
B. Lash ( CEO) : in a beauty store if not possibly my own with my brand of eyelashes available for all. 20 years maybe with a whole beauty cosmetic line, from eyelashes down to foundation. I’ll stick with the basics for now lol.
