Fashion Gxd Magazine : How did the idea for your business come about?

 

Oilmi Beauty (CEO): As an ambassador of many frontline health and beauty products, I was enculturated with the business, science, art, and language of the personal care industry.  In 2008, I created a pure hair and body oil in my home office due to the lack of products in the market that worked.  The need for a product that evened out the amount of oil and moisture in my hair and skin was the inception of the Oilmi vision.

The lack of quality products that worked has created a high demand for products like Oilmi Beauty products in the hair care market. Having few choices available for both stylists and consumers, I realized the need for a brand that works to the benefit of both. I became committed to creating a complete and consistent line rather than forcing the consumer to pick and choose a combination of different brands that offer what Oilmi products provide.

 

· Fashion Gxd Magazine : How do you find people to bring into your organization that truly care about the organization the way you do?

Oilmi Beauty (CEO):  When I look for people to be part of the brand, I am looking for motivated, driven people with the same passion for the products in the brand that I have.  The people who work for us do it because they believe in the brand and the changes that they see them make in consumers.

 

 

·  Fashion Gxd Magazine : What three pieces of advice would you give to other children  who want to become entrepreneurs?

Oilmi Beauty (CEO):  My 3 pieces of advice would be to do the following:         

Make sure whatever you decide to do that it is something you love to do because you will work and succeed if it is something you love and believe in.

Research and plan. Make sure you get all the available information before you start your company. Find out the real cost to run the business and save if possible.

Execute your plan.  No excuse. Give yourself a timeline and adhere to it


 

 

· Fashion Gxd Magazine :If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?

Oilmi Beauty (CEO): If I had to start over I would save more money and premarket.  Marketing is key and as a new business, this is the one thing that is always underestimated.  You need to network as much as possible to keep yourself visible

 

· Fashion Gxd Magazine :What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur ?

Oilmi Beauty (CEO): The top three skills to be successful are the following:

Organization and planning.  This is a must to have an successful plan

Communication.  Use clear and accurate communication to suppliers and customers.

Leadership.  You must be able to lead and manage your employees and suppliers.


 

 

· Fashion Gxd Magazine :What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?

Oilmi Beauty (CEO): Not premarketing and understanding how much is needed to market a brand. I have learned that marketing is key in various forms and that you should explore all the options.

 

· Fashion Gxd Magazine : How many hours do you work a day on average?

Oilmi Beauty (CEO):: On an average day could be 10 hours which includes weekends, but you will have some slower days were you do 4 hours.  When you are the owner of your company you really are always working, maybe not at a computer but you are always brainstorming and using your phone for business.

 

· Fashion Gxd Magazine :Describe/outline your typical day?

Oilmi Beauty (CEO): Usually between 6-7am I work on the social media post and get them out, next I go through emails and respond if needed or take other actions. I then may need to make calls, but if not organize my office and do any data entry that is needed on the accounting side.  If I see website order I review them all and communicate with the warehouse on each order.  If I need to I will meet with my manufacturers, retailers, or distributors to discuss issues or projects. Then back to emails and brainstorming on different projects, such as the new facial care regiment which will hit the market in May.

 

· Fashion Gxd Magazine : How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?

Oilmi Beauty (CEO):  I am more flexible to spend time with my family and I usually have them help when we do events.  They love the brand and promote it as well, so they enjoy the time we are together working or simple enjoying each other’s company

 

· Fashion Gxd Magazine :What motivates you?

Oilmi Beauty (CEO): What motivates me is being able to put out a brand that I can be proud of. When I started this journey, my main goal was to bring out every one’s inner king and queen and make them feel shiny and good- on the inside and out.  Making the customer feel beautiful even when their day may be going bad.

 

· Fashion Gxd Magazine: How do you generate new ideas?

Oilmi Beauty (CEO): I have a couple of close advisors that we discuss current business and what and where we see the brand.  I constantly think about the things that I need in my everyday life and how it applies to others.

 

· Fashion Gxd Magazine : What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful entrepreneur?

Oilmi Beauty (CEO):  You must sacrifice time, money, friends or associates, and luxuries. Since my family helps, I am, fortunate that I do not sacrifice them.

 

· Fashion Gxd Magazine : Where you see yourself and your business in 10 years? 20 years?

Oilmi Beauty (CEO):  The brand in 10 to 20 years will be a household name in which everyone will have some of our products in their home.  We will continue to expand the brand to cater for the needs of the consumer without gimmicks. We build our brand on quality products that simply work.
