Fashion Gxd Magazine : How did the idea for your business come about?
Salon-Leslie-Nicole: I became a Licensed hair stylist back in 1989 here in Brooklyn NY. I decided to work in a few Hair Salons because I was very passionate since as a child about becoming a Hair Stylist and working in the Beauty Industry. I then decided in 2004 to open my first Hair Salon followed by the second one in 2012 which is still in progress now in  Crown Heights Brooklyn.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : How do you find people to bring into your organization that truly care about the organization the way you do?
Salon-Leslie-Nicole: They should have great people skills, be artistically creative, licensed or in the process of obtaining licensure, punctual, display professional conduct.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : What three pieces of advice would you give to other children  who want to become entrepreneurs?
Salon-Leslie-Nicole: Seek out good Mentorship in the field you eventually want to pursue. Work hard to develop the skills needed for your career goals. Hand pick an effective team of individuals that will be able to assist you with good creative ideas such as interns, volunteers or community members.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?
Salon-Leslie-Nicole: I would take advantage of all the essential networking tools & resources provided today as opposed to what was not provided to us at the time we were bringing forth our business ideas.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur ?
Salon-Leslie-Nicole: Love your brand. Believe in yourself as a unique individual. Develop great customer service skills.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?
Salon-Leslie-Nicole: Hiring some of the wrong individuals as team support. I've learned that everyone has expectations so if one is expected to be hired they should also bring something to the table, skills, creativity, charisma etc.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : How many hours do you work a day on average?
Salon-Leslie-Nicole: Possibly eight to ten hours it all depends each client's need.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :Describe/outline your typical day?
Salon-Leslie-Nicole: Our Typical day can range from being super-busy on our feet spending long hours on our client's hair or slow days but also spent pampering our clients.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?
Salon-Leslie-Nicole: Whew! Most of my time is spent in the workplace it's not easy but I'm finally learning how to balance the two a bit better.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :What motivates you?
Salon-Leslie-Nicole: Hard work, energetic folks, customers that love and appreciate our work.

Fashion Gxd Magazine: How do you generate new ideas?
Salon-Leslie-Nicole: Well in this industry there's always room for creativity so sometimes we're "put on the spot" to bring forth those ideas for our clients or they give us an idea of what they would like us to do for them and we could tweek it depending on their individual features. Also workshops can help a great deal to stay current.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful entrepreneur?
Salon-Leslie-Nicole: Oh boy, I'm constantly making sacrifices because my business is my "baby" therefore I eat, sleep and think the business all day long. A lot of compromise is involved, vacations are either postponed most of the time, personal errands get delayed, fun with family and friends have to be scheduled most of the time but I'm getting a little better as I mentioned earlier, balance is definitely key.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : Where you see yourself and your business in 10 years? 20 years?
Salon-Leslie-Nicole: So since I've been in this industry altogether 25+ years, I would say, expanding the brand for the next ten years with more products, services and networking outside of our community as well. Currently we do have clientele that extend outside of the community including other states and countries that come into our Salon or follow us on social media and eventually make appointments for services.
