FGM: It’s an honor to sit down with you all. Tell us a little about your brand and how you’ve come to this vastly successful peek in your career?
Preston Dent: I have a unique brand that consists of several aspects of entertainment. I have a record label brand named Early Bird Mob group that has been running for two decades. I also am a published author with several outstanding books, lead roles as an actor in several films. I wrote several films, directed and produced several films, I'm a dog breeder and I have an all-natural shampoo and conditioner called Zuri Grow.
I was blessed by the wits of God to be able to continue my grind with persistence, constant different lane development and when rock bottom stared me in the face I never gave up!
FGM: How do you feel you make a difference in the world?
Preston Dent: I came from nothing to something, I grew up in the heart of the ghetto taking from my community to now giving back! I have a voice in my city and I use it to promote change and positive energy. I once did a stop the violence basketball game, know your status campaign, stop the human trafficking campaign, and went on television trying to raise awareness in my community!
FGM: Tell us about a time when you showed determination to continue as an entrepreneur
Preston Dent: I relocated to Atlanta, Ga with my lady, when she became pregnant with my son she departed back to Pennsylvania and left me in the condo with no hustle, or no job. So once the lease was up, I had nowhere to live so my only option was to sleep in my promotional van. I cleaned myself in the gas station, ate hot dogs for breakfast lunch, and dinner. I was forced to sleep with different women, just so I can shelter in their house. I was down bad, but I was reaching my career goals and connecting with important people in the industry, so I couldn’t leave. The struggle was real, but I was willing to sacrifice my pride, integrity, to make it in the entertainment game.
FGM: Give me the three best qualities of your brand?
Preston Dent: Creatively, determination, professionalism
FGM: Being an entrepreneur is a 24/7 job, how did you get ready for that?
Preston Dent: I was really born for it, I love the hard work and with entrepreneurship it's either you have it or you don’t! Everybody isn’t meant to be a coach, a point guard, a chief, the captain of a boat. You’ll always have your Indians, cheerleaders, bench warmers and that’s just how the game plays.
FGM: Which current public figure, are you inspired by or appreciate the most?
Preston Dent: I have more than one, Tyler Perry, Master P, 50 Cent, Ice Cube, Jay Z, and James Patterson.
FGM: What are the three qualities you feel an entrepreneur must have?
Preston Dent: The three d’s, diligence, determination, and discipline!
FGM: Where do you see your business in 10 years? How do you plan to get there?
Preston Dent: I see my business at the top of the tier with many artists I discovered. I see many of my books turned into films, my shampoo and conditioner line in all stores, and me selling written films to big directors across the globe.
I'm going to get there by never quitting, strategic planning, investing in myself, being at the right place, and keep shaking the tree until the leaf falls.
