DJ Symplistik, also known as Dr. Skinner, is a renowned DJ and educator who has made a significant impact in the music and academic world. With a Ph.D. in education, he has combined his passion for music and education to create a unique brand that caters to the development of youth through STEM/STEAM programs. He is also the owner of Craft Keepers, a company that reflects his values of hard work, determination, resilience, and consistency. Growing in his notoriety his brand has been highlighted in prestigious press such as Medium, One West Magazine, Grind Magazine, and Digital Buzz.

FGM: It's an honor to sit down with you all. Tell us a little about your brand and how you've come to this vastly successful peek in your career.

Answer: My brand is a direct reflection of my values, specifically a passion for education and youth development through STEM/STEAM programs. These values, including hard work, determination, resilience, and consistency, have been essential characteristics that have led to the expansion and growth of my company, Craft Keepers Inc.

FGM: Who are the clients/what are the projects that you most enjoy working on?
As an educator, I work with students across all levels from Elementary to High School. Though I enjoy working with all of my students, the Osborne Association YES and YAC scholars hold a special place in my heart. These young individuals come from a unique background, with parents either recently released from prison or currently incarcerated. Witnessing them step out of their comfort zone to use their voice in such a powerful way is truly awe-inspiring. The podcast that I helped to produce has also contributed to increasing visitation to their loved ones in prison, making it an incredibly impactful project.

FGM: How do you feel you make a difference in the world?

Answer: I personally believe our programs are an outlet for scholars to learn through creativity. This opportunity allows children to step out of their comfort zone and gain exposure. My impact on their development and self-esteem makes a difference in their overall academic performance and even in their social skills. This is the first step to the making of a better tomorrow. Being able to employ and provide mentorship to my former students has also been the highlight of Craft Keepers Inc.

FGM: Tell us about a time when you showed determination to continue as an entrepreneur

Answer:  As an entrepreneur, each day presents a new set of hurdles to overcome. Resilience is essential when it comes to persevering through tough times. It's important to have faith that the universe will guide your path and help you overcome any obstacles in your way.

FGM: Give me the three best qualities of your brand

Answer: The top three qualities of my brand are creativity, Vision, and Self-Awareness/Reflection.

FGM: Give me an example of when you worked irregular hours.

Answer:  While my classroom hours typically fall within the normal school day, much of my time outside of class is spent on planning, preparation, collaboration, and editing. Additionally, my community charity initiatives, such as the annual Back to School Bookbag and Supply Giveaway, Thanksgiving food giveaway (in partnership with local churches and other non-profit organizations), and Christmas Toy Drive (in partnership with local businesses), require a flexible schedule that often involves irregular hours.

FGM: Being an entrepreneur is a 24/7 job, how did you get ready for that?

Answer: Deep down, I always knew I was an entrepreneur. But in reality, I wasn't fully prepared for the journey ahead. Nevertheless, I stayed focused, educated myself, made strategic partnerships, and learned to be patient as I built my brand and expanded my company.

FGM: How did you acquire the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines as an entrepreneur?

Answer:  Working as a full-time teacher in the classroom and in the radio industry has honed my ability to excel under pressure. Balancing both jobs required me to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.

FGM: What is your favorite inspirational point, or place, to develop new brand developments?

Answer: One of my favorite inspirational posts is "Carpe Diem" – Seize the Day. My most creative moments usually happen in the late hours of the night, or when I'm surrounded by the beauty of nature. It's during these moments that my best ideas and visions for both myself and my company are born, whether it's in the tranquility of Marine Park Salt Marsh or in the comfort of my own home.

FGM: Which current public figure, are you inspired by or appreciate the most?

Answer: I draw inspiration from two individuals, Daymond John and Sadhguru. Daymond John is a great example of brand building and personal success, and I find his journey incredibly inspiring. Sadhguru, on the other hand, has inspired me with his spiritual principles for living a fulfilling life.

How do you handle stress?

Answer:  When it comes to handling stress, I find that prayer, meditation, and exercise are the most helpful tools in my arsenal.

FGM: What are the three qualities you feel an entrepreneur must have?

Answer: The Power of Faith, Resilience, and Determination

FGM:  Where do you see your business in 10 years? How do you plan to get there?

Answer: Craft Keeper is currently operating in New York City, New Jersey, and has had past experience in North Carolina. However, our goal is to bring our curriculums to schools throughout the entire country. We aim to achieve this through networking, branch expansion, and our unwavering hard work and drive – one state at a time.

FGM: It was a pleasure speaking with you thank you for joining us

Answer:  I am sincerely grateful for the chance to share my personal journey and inspire others never to give up on their dreams.
