Fashion Gxd Magazine - Actor Marcus Murphy Discusses Working With SpliffStar From Flipmode Squad, Upcoming Projects, and More!

Written By: Samantha Cee

Rising Acting Star Marcus Murphy has gained tons of buzz for his multi-talents which include acting, modeling, executive producing, and more. Some press he’s obtained include features in Sheen Magazine, Hype Magazine, Heart of Hollywood Magazine, We Empower Magazine, Vocal Media, Medium, Stardom 101 Magazine, and so much more!

Marcus appreciates the different media platforms allowing him to grace a magazine cover or be featured in one. It seems surreal for him to see his dreams come to fruition because you never know if it's just a dream or really can make a career out of it. Above all, the support, acknowledgment, and validation give Marcus the courage to continue to do the work, remain grounded, and embrace what is to come.

Among his creative talent, he is a huge role model and inspiration to many.

We understand that you have an upcoming project with a celebrity. We are thrilled to learn all about it. What can you share at this time?

Marcus: In 2022 I had the opportunity to film a scene for the upcoming independent feature comedy film called the Liquor Store Run. It was amazing to be on set and film with the incredible SpliffStar from Flipmode Squad Busta Rhymes hype man. He was amazing and really taught me how to have fun while filming and not be in your head so much trying to be perfect. I will always be appreciative for that experience and cannot wait to see the project when it drops this year.

Please tell us more about your latest, upcoming, and exciting news in your world of acting and fashion.

Marcus: The next acting projects I have approaching this year is quite a few. The first project I will be filming in late March is a series called We Want Justice created by Marlon Reid and directed by KaZarr Coleman. The follow-up project filming in July is Greed and Loyalty written and directed by DeWayne Etheridge. I serve as executive producer along with acting in the project. In August I have the distinguished pleasure of being on stage for the award-winning book Tales of A Grown Girl opening in Maryland, and in the Fall being seen in New York.

I have some great projects ahead of me and each character challenges me. I recently signed with an amazing talent agency in New York, that works tirelessly for all their talent. If all goes well I will be walking in an amazing fashion show in Atlanta. In the meantime, I am able to wear my custom attires from Arjona Collection on the red carpets.

As an actor, what characteristics do you admire most in a director?

Marcus: I have worked with a lot of directors in the past ten years of my career. The characteristics I really look forward to when working together are having great character and integrity. I can read a room well and if the vibe is off due to your character and integrity, I don’t mind removing myself from the equation. The director sets the tone for the project to be great or an epic failure. I love to be great in everything I do with the right direction and support.

What is it about a script that will make you say yes to taking on a role?

Marcus: I read a lot of scripts and what sells me to say yes to a project is the authenticity of the storyline and how the writer creates an amazing message for me to be blown away. Anthony Green founder of Cagebirds Productions does a great job with that and our first time working together was on The Souls of Black Pebbles. Of course, when you hear the title, you are expecting a horror film like Jason. However, it is a social horror film that explores society’s fear of black bodies and the concept of sexual ties, where remnants of the soul linger within sexual partners. Therefore, after reading the entirety of the script I was intrigued to learn more about him and the project.

What else are you involved in outside of entertainment?

Marcus: Outside of entertainment, it is important for me to volunteer back in my community for the things that interest me. I am fond of helping the homeless by feeding them and having conversations to learn more about their stories. I don’t like a lot of exposure around me when I am in that particular element because it is not for show. So posting about it or taking photos does not warrant that. I am human first and connecting to individuals that do not know me as an artist is tremendous.

What will be the best part of Marcus Murphy’s 2023?

Marcus: The best part of 2023 for me honestly is seeing what I do next in my career with the tools I have acquired from amazing people in my life. It has been a village supporting me my entire life and I do not take it for granted. I embrace all that is coming my way.
